So, if you read my about me page, you know that I’ve been struggling to get out of debt but have made some significant progress over the past year.
We sold our huge, oversized (but beautiful) home and moved into one that was roughly half its size. This freed up some extra money between $1000 cheaper mortgage and all of the utilities associated with that much space.
We used what remaining profit we made to pay off all but one credit card. I then created a budget which showed that with a little planning, we did not have to give up all of our creature comforts in order to have an extra $3000 a month to put towards the remaining debt.
Six months later, all of our credit card debt is gone as well as two of our student loans.
My goal for 2015 is to pay off all of my husband’s loans (about 15k) and my two lower loans (about 17k) and just have my two ginormous (about 135k combined) loans remaining.
It’s a tight goal- $32k paid off in one year- but if my calculations are correct, we should be able to swing it and have about $4000 left over for unexpected expenses.
Over the next year I will be posting on my progress, any major roadblocks and any ways I find to get debt free faster!
