So, if you’ve been with me so far, you know that I’ve been completing my first Whole 30. This is a diet program in which you eliminate any possible food in your diet that does not provide optimal health. Some examples are anything processed, grains, dairy and legumes. I basically use the rule of thumb if it is not whole (orange, steak, egg) then I don’t eat it.
I have now gone just over 2 weeks on the program and I have to say it has not been anywhere near as difficult as I was sure it would be. I have learned what items are and are not allowed, what I like and don’t like and what I can make in a hurry if I forget to take something out of the freezer in time.
I’ve learned that black coffee is pretty good just as it is- and also that I HATE coconut or almond milk in it- they just seem to make it taste more bitter. I’ve learned that when I feel like I just can’t eat another egg or I’m gonna lose it, the next day that feeling will subside. And most importantly, I’ve learned that I CAN DO THIS.
I have not really had any cravings from day one. If anything, I’ve had the opposite problem of just not wanting any food at all. It took me about 4 days to get over it, and now as long as I plan my meals ahead of time and don’t forget to pull the meat out of the freezer, I have been fine. The only real temptation I have faced is when I’m at someone’s house or out for dinner and I don’t want to be super picky about the food. “oh, you use canola oil? Do you have any olive oil?” etc.
The benefits have been profound in just two short weeks. I have seen my skin clear up dramatically and am not having quite as many headaches as I have had previously. I have seen a remarkable improvement in my energy and attitude levels. I just feel overall better about everything and less depressed and, well, blah. Also, even though you’re not officially “supposed to,” I have been weighing myself to make sure I’m staying on track. I am excited to report that after just two weeks, I am already down six pounds and it seems to be a steady loss vs. water weight so I am hoping to be able to continue at this rate over the next two weeks as well!
I am excited to continue my journey and I appreciate the support all of you are giving. It feels so good knowing I am feeding my body real foods and have eliminated all the junk and chemicals in order to keep living my best life! Next step…. adding workouts!
